another stunning little stand… a mid 1800′s Candle Stand?…

January 23, 2012

The January Furniture Restore-athon at Shady Lawn Antiques is going great!  Two days ago I finished a small walnut table with a single drawer.  I have some more research to do but I believe that it is a mid – 1800′s Candle Stand.

This table certainly dates to the mid- 1800′s and perhaps it is even older.  The drawer features hand cut dovetails which dates this piece as no older than 1850 to 1860.table with the drawer open....

The exact purpose of the table is still in doubt.

I found this table dismantled and sitting on a shelf next to the dismantled small maple stand that I wrote about last week.  I have no memory of where or when I acquired this piece.  I vaguely remember using some epoxy to glue and fill some cracks.  I’m sure that the table got set aside while the epoxy cured…

It has been completed and it is stunning!

NOTE:  I have restored many more pieces than I have featured on this blog, so come and visit us when we reopen in February.
