Stunning Winter pictures from Walla Walla…
In early December we had a great Frost Episode here in the Valley of the Two Wallas. It appeared to me that the temperatures dropped well below freezing, into the 20′s, for several days. Then some fog developed, froze and some great crystalline features were formed.
This type of frost condition is quite rare in this valley. Most WW people seem to have called it “hoarfrost” but Cal Tech seems indicate that it might be “rime” frost.
Whatever the frost is formally called, the ice crystals were stunning!
There is a section of chain link fence behind Shady Lawn Antiques. This picture was taken from outside of the fence with Shady Lawn in the background.
Here is a picture of frost on a branch.
Here is a rose bush with Shady Lawn as a background.
I’m posting these pictures on the eve of the 2011 Winter Solstice or the longest night of the year (and the first day of winter). Although these pictures are about ten days old – they are definitely winter pictures!

Dave: These are really cool pictures.
